Privacy policy

Our commitment to privacy

Your privacy is important to us. To better protect your privacy, we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used. To make this notice easy to find, we link to it from every page of this website.

Who we are

Christine Varley Studio provides portraits, images and artwork, licensing, and sales of animal-related gifts. We trade from Christine Varley Studio, Hawthorn Villa, Kington Road, Weobley, Herefordshire, HR4 8QS, England.

The information we collect

This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on this website.

When you send us a message

The contact form asks for:

• your name
• your email address
• your phone number (optional)
• what you'd like a portrait of, and your message
• any photos you choose to add (optional)

The form is run by Netlify, which hosts this website. Netlify stores your message and passes it on to Christine by email. It also checks messages for spam.

Photos you send with a message

Photos you add to the form are stored by Netlify with your message, and the email Christine receives has a link to each one. Before sending, your browser makes large photos smaller, which usually also removes hidden details such as where a photo was taken.

Christine uses your photos only to discuss and paint your portrait. Messages sent through the form, with the links to their photos, are kept in Netlify for about a year and then deleted. Netlify may keep its own copy of an uploaded photo after that, at a private address that isn't published anywhere. If Christine is painting your portrait, the photos she saves to work from may be kept with the records for that portrait. You can ask her to delete your message and photos sooner.

When you order

To complete an order, we may need your name, address, email address and phone number. If you want a portrait or gift sent directly to someone else, we will also need their name, address and phone number.

When you sign up to the newsletter

The newsletter sign-up sends your email address to the WaggyDogz mailing list, which is used only to send you the newsletter.

Visitor statistics

We count visits to this website with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly statistics service. It does not use cookies and does not collect personal information. It records which pages are viewed, the website you came from, your browser, operating system, language and screen size, and your country (worked out from your IP address, which is not stored). We see only totals, never individual visitors.

Cookies

This website does not set cookies. Videos are only loaded from YouTube, in its privacy-enhanced mode, when you choose to watch one: by clicking a video, or a “watch it being painted” link, which opens the videos page and starts that video. From then on YouTube may store information on your device as it would on its own site, and YouTube's own privacy policy applies to the video player.

The information we don't collect

• Credit or debit card details: this website never asks for them.

How we use information

• We use the information you provide about yourself when placing an order only to complete that order.
• We use the information you provide about someone else when placing an order only to send them the order and to confirm delivery.
• We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that order.
• We offer gift vouchers, which you can personalise for the person receiving them. Information you provide for a gift voucher is used only for that purpose, and is disclosed only to the person receiving the gift.
• We use your email address to answer the messages we receive. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties.
• You can sign up to the newsletter if you would like to receive updates on new products and services. Information you submit on our website will not be used for this purpose unless you sign up.
• We use non-identifying and aggregate information, such as the visitor statistics above, to better design our website. We would never disclose anything that could be used to identify individual visitors.
• Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also giving you an opportunity to opt out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

Our commitment to data security

To prevent unauthorised access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

Our commitment to children's privacy

Protecting the privacy of the very young is especially important. For that reason, we never collect or maintain information on our website from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our website is structured to attract anyone under 13.

How you can access or correct your information

You can access all the personally identifiable information that we collect online and maintain by calling us on 07790 726719 or sending us a message. We use this procedure to better safeguard your information. You can correct factual errors in your personally identifiable information by sending us a request that credibly shows the error. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making corrections.
